With a status orange wind warning in place for Donegal this evening and for a time tonight and wintry showers expected to continue, Donegal County Council is urging all members of the public to exercise caution, to take extra care on the roads and to allow extra time for journeys.
The Councils road gritting crews will be out again this afternoon from 4pm gritting all the main routes in the county with a view to keeping the roads passable.
We are appealing to all motorists to take extra care and even if a road is treated it does not guarantee that the road is ice free so extreme care should be taken. Gritting crews will be out again tomorrow morning.
The public can keep up to date with road conditions by following the Council’s Twitter accounts @roadsdcc or @donegalcouncil and our Facebook page
or by checking out the Winter Gritting map here.
This map provides motorists with up to date information on road conditions and road gritting plans on a given night. It also shows the locations of public sand and grit collection points.
There are also links to weather cameras to view live conditions in a number of strategic locations across the region.
